Marfan's Syndrome - What should you know?

What do you know about Marfan's Syndrome? If you are like me a few short months ago, you probably have never even heard of it. Chances are good that you have heard of seemingly healthy high school or college athletes suddenly collapsing and dying while participating in their sport of choice due to an undetected "heart condition". There is a high likihood that the "heart condition" was attributable to a genetic disorder affecting connective tissues including the heart called Marfan's Syndrome.

I would like to encourage you to take a few minutes to study the characteristic traits of a Marfan patient in hopes that you will be knowlegable enough to possibly prevent one of these tragic stories from occuring.  Following is a link to the National Marfan's Foundation (NMF) page outlining the fundamental information you can use:  About Marfan Syndrome

Thank you.

Of Ships and Scouts

We spent last weekend taking the cub scouts down to Charleston, SC where we camped on the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point. What a great setup they have for such groups. The place is well organized and professionally managed. I highly recommend this for scouting or other youth groups. In addition to the ship tours, Patriots point integrates other touring opportunities into their reservation system.
